On Thursday Jesus and His disciples shared the Passover meal, last supper together. There He took the bread, gave thanks broke it and gave it to them. The bread is a picture of Christ's human life that He willingly gave for us. To partake points to your deliberate choice to receive Him and live your life for Him. Next he took the wine, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying This is the blood of the covenant poured out for many for the forgiveness of sin. When we drink the wine we affirm we believe and receive forgiveness thru Christ's death. Jesus, being fully God and fully man later went to a place He would go to pray, the garden of Gethsemane. He knew the hour was coming and told 3 of His disciples that His sorrow overwhelmed Him to the point of death. He prayed hard. His sweat were like drops of blood falling to the ground. An angel appeared to strengthen Him. Jesus prayed if possible the cup be taken from Him. That cup was the separation from God He would soon have to face due to sin, our sin, my sin. The perfect Son of God had never been separated from His Father before. Jesus willingly took our place, He was never a victim. He willingly became our substitute. After praying 3 times The Son of God is betrayed with the weapon of a kiss and arrested. This happened on Thursday.
